Bachelor of Science in Data Science

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science is a four-year interdisciplinary program designed to develop foundational skills in computing, data engineering, data governance, artificial intelligence, and ethical practices. It aims to train undergraduates to understand effective and ethical ways of using vast amounts of data, and to develop foundational techniques for data analysis and decision-making. The curriculum covers statistics, computing, visualization, and ethical governance, and incorporates hands-on experience through various projects. Additionally, the program integrates students’ selection of concentration areas through professional electives and a required minor, training them as multidisciplinary professionals and preparing them for data science roles or further studies, which addresses the growing demand for data-literate professionals in the Philippines and globally.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, graduates will be equipped to:

  1. Apply foundational methodologies for data collection, organization, and analysis to support organizational decision-making.
  2. Extract insights ethically, addressing issues like bias and privacy in diverse domains.
  3. Develop practical skills with industry tools (e.g., Python, R, Tableau) through real-world applications.
  4. Communicate data-driven findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Total of 187 units: 178 academic units and 9 non-academic units
    • General Education: 45 units
    • Computing Courses: 21 units
    • Mathematics and Statistics: 14 units of Math, 12 units of Statistics
    • Data Science and Professional Courses: 45 units
    • Specialization: 12 units of Professional Electives, 12 units of Required Minor
    • Practicum: 3 units,  designed to provide real-world work experience
    • Thesis: 6 units, meant to showcase mastery by solving a complex problem or conducting independent research
    • PE: 8 units
    • Non-academic, including Lasallian Studies: 9 units
