Dr. Esperanza Cabrera
Lab Manager

Molecular Science Laboratory (MSU)

The Molecular Science Unit (MSU) is envisioned to be a dynamic mover of scientific knowledge, innovator and relevant catalyst for research development. It strictly adheres to the principle of intellectual integrity and honesty in the conduct of research as well as upholding the value of Lasallian education in the pursuit of truth and wisdom. Its mission is to develop and foster a vibrant and dynamic academic research culture for the molecular sciences that will support the advances in genomics, medicine, health, environmental science and biotechnology. The MSU pursues two research directions: GENOMICS and PROTEOMICS as applied to preservation and protection of Natural Resources, such as DNA Banking of Indigenous Flora and Fauna of the Philippines; and GENOMICS and PROTEOMICS in the field of Medicine.

High Performance Computing Laboratory (HPCL)

In DLSU, the High Performance Computing Laboratory (HPCL) unit of CENSER at the St. Joseph Building (SJ206) houses the “Beowulf-like” cluster UBASAN. Here, a group of computers are linked into a small local area network and installed with software programs that allow processing to be shared among the computers. The result is a high performance parallel computing cluster capable of reducing the total time to finish a task with one PC to a scale depending on the total number of processors used. HPCL is continually upgrading its facilities to cater to the research needs of users inside as well outside DLSU, such as those in the industry. More software programs will be installed as needed. Currently the cluster is installed with libraries, compilers, and application softwares (C/C++/Fortran gcc and Intel, VASP, LAMMPS, and GROMACS)
UBASAN, currently consists of DELL PowerEdge T420 primary node and 32 compute notes with a total of 300 cpus. Users can submit multiple jobs inside and outside DLSU. The cluster runs on the ROCKS cluster operating system and jobs are managed by Open Grid Engine cluster resource manager.
