HOLISTIC HEALTHCARE AT DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY
Academic Year 2024-2025
De La Salle University ensures that students have access to essential healthcare services by providing both physical and mental health support through dedicated institutional offices. These services are designed to be accessible, responsive, and student-centered, recognizing that health and well-being are critical to academic success and overall development.
Among the Campus Services Office (CSO) primary functions is the provision and coordination of healthy and affordable food options on and around campus. This includes onsite concessionaire canteens and a variety of private establishments surrounding the main campus. The CSO directly collaborates with the local government unit (LGU) to jointly uphold health, safety, and price accessibility standards of food and drink options around University buildings.
For physical healthcare, the University provides on-campus medical services through the Health Services Office (HSO), which serves as the primary provider of clinical care for students and staff. The HSO offers medical consultations, basic treatment, first aid, and health monitoring, allowing students to receive immediate and accessible care without the need to leave campus. By situating healthcare services within the University, the HSO reduces barriers to access, particularly in cases of minor illnesses, injuries, or urgent health concerns that may arise during academic activities.
Complementing this is the DLSU Care Desk, which functions as a centralized support mechanism that assists students in accessing appropriate health and wellness services. The Care Desk plays an important coordination role by guiding students to the relevant offices, providing initial assistance, and ensuring that concerns are addressed efficiently. This integrated system enhances the accessibility and responsiveness of healthcare services by streamlining communication and support pathways within the University.
In addition to physical healthcare, De La Salle University prioritizes mental health through the Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) and Lasallian Center for Inclusion, Diversity, and Well-being (LCIDWell) units, which provide comprehensive psychological support for students and staff, respectively. CPS and LCIDWell offer professional counseling services, including individual sessions, psychological assessment, and intervention for a range of concerns such as stress, anxiety, academic pressure, and personal challenges. They maintain a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment where stakeholders are encouraged to seek support and openly discuss their concerns. Beyond one-on-one counseling, they also implement mental health programs, awareness campaigns, and preventive interventions aimed at promoting emotional resilience and well-being across the student population. The dedicated units also collaborate with the HSO for sexual and reproductive information and education services. These activities help normalize help-seeking behavior, reduce stigma surrounding mental health, and equip students with coping strategies to manage challenges effectively.
Through the combined efforts of these institutional offices, the University provides a comprehensive and integrated healthcare system that supports both physical and mental well-being. By ensuring accessible, timely, and holistic care, De La Salle University fosters a supportive environment that enables students to thrive academically while maintaining their overall health and wellness.
