DLSU Inaugurates Evelyn D. Ang Hall, Expanding Healthcare Technology and Biomedical Innovation

De La Salle University officially inaugurated the Evelyn D. Ang Hall on August 8 at its Laguna Campus, marking a major leap forward in the country’s capacity for biomedical research, health technology development, and interdisciplinary education.

The state-of-the-art facility serves as the permanent home of the Evelyn D. Ang Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Health Technologies. Designed to bridge academia, government, and industry, the Institute focuses on developing safe, accessible, and affordable medical devices tailored to the needs of the Filipino people.

The ceremony opened with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and blessing, attended by Evelyn D. Ang Scholarships and Charities, Inc. (EDASCI) Founder and Philanthropist Mr. Philip Ang, EDASCI Chairman Mr. Harvey T. Ang, EDASCI President Ms. Carmina O. Ang, DLSU President Br. Bernard S. Oca FSC, university administrators, industry partners, contractors, designers, suppliers, and friends and relatives of the Ang Family.

The building is dedicated to the memory of Evelyn D. Ang, whose life was defined by her devotion to community service, medical missions, and educational philanthropy. Continuing her legacy, her husband, philanthropist Philip T. Ang, established EDASCI, which provided crucial support through the Evelyn D. Ang Memorial Fund to make both the Institute and the new hall a reality.

DLSU President Br. Bernard Oca, FSC, remarked in Tagalog, a gesture aligned with the nation’s ongoing Buwan ng Wika celebration, highlighting the day’s broader spirit in his opening message: “More than a building, it stands as a testament to what can be achieved when philanthropy and education come together in pursuit of a shared purpose – creating opportunities, transforming lives, and shaping future generations of Lasallian leaders. It is only fitting that this Hall bears her name, for it will continue her legacy by nurturing future generations of Lasallian researchers, innovators, and leaders whose work will advance healthcare and serve the common good.”

EDASCI President Carmina Ang delivered a poignant message on behalf of the donor family, capturing the facility’s deep personal meaning. “To a passing student, this may seem like just another building on campus, but if within these walls someone fulfills a dream, finds hope, and creates opportunities they never thought possible, then Auntie Evelyn’s legacy and Uncle Philip’s gift will always carry on,” she shared.

DLSU administrators presented Mr. Philip Ang with a custom commemorative piece titled “A Shared Vision”—crafted from reclaimed mahogany and repurposed laboratory metals by the campus’s own Fabrication Laboratory—symbolizing the university’s dedication to sustainability and compassionate innovation.

“This facility gives our researchers and students the physical and technological environment they need to transform big ideas into practical medical solutions,” added Dr. Nilo Bugtai, Founding Director of the EDA Institute.

Following the unveiling of the dedicatory marker, DLSU Laguna reaffirms its position as a growing hub for technological advancement, sustainable development, and social impact in the region.
